MUSEO "STIBBERT"
The Museum created from Frederick Stibbert (1838-1906, inside the villa of Montughi, constitutes a rare nineteenth-century example of museum: the preparation of every room was studied to evoke the atmosphere of the period and of the places of origin of the works, and the reorganization of the villa had entrusted at the greater architects and decorators of the time that realized a house-museum of large suggestion.
Stibbert was man of large culture and capable financier, that exercised a decisive role on the antiquarian market European. The collections reflect its interest for the story and the different customs of peoples and include arms, frameworks, customs, objects of furnish and of applied art, tapestry and painting from the Sixteenth century to the nineteenth century. The more significant section is that of arms and European frameworks of middle east and Japanese origin. Of special effect is the Room of the Ridden, where are lined up some natural size European and Islamic knights. Of large quality also the collection of customs.
